What another busy week we've had in Reception!

In literacy this week, we've been learning how to retell our story: "The Bear that went Boo". We've used lots of different actions to help us remember the whole story and our favourite bit is definitely when we get to shout "BOO" really loud. I wonder if anyone is able to share it with their families. As well as this, our writing focus has been to select a small snippet and write about our favourite part. Some favourites included when the explorer fell into the water and others loved that Mummy Bear was right.

In maths we've been investigating number bonds to 10. The numicon has really helped us with our addition and being able to see what total we get when putting two numbers together. We're hoping that our fantastic knowledge of numbers will support us next week when we begin to look beyond 10 when using number lines.

On Thursday, preschool joined us and we became scientists. We investigated how polar bears were able to keep warm in such a cold environment. We discovered that they had two layers of fur and that blubber protected them from the snowy temperatures. Mrs Taylor was lucky enough to find real whale blubber that we could mould around our hands and dip into the icy water. Surprisingly our hands stayed really warm. Why don’t you ask us what is special about Artic animals?

We’ve also been learning a French number song. It was really tricky because we had to count to 10 and then back again to 1.

In P.E, we learnt a penguin dance that really challenged our coordination. If you’d like to join in at home, search for ‘The Learning Station’ on Youtube and select penguins.

Have a wonderful weekend and be sure to see what we’ve been up to on Tapestry. Don’t forget,  you can also add any exciting things that you’ve been up to. Once again, thank you for all the milk bottles, we are very nearly there and are just constructing the roof with the last remaining bottles. We are currently updating the outdoor area and would really appreciate any old, metal pots/pans and wooden spoons if you have any to spare. Many tahnks

Miss Sherliker, Mrs Taylor and Mrs Payne.
