Reception blog - w/b Monday 7th June
Date: 10th Jun 2021 @ 4:40pm
Hello everyone,
Well, the final term of the academic year has certainly blessed us with some lovely weather and the children have really enjoyed the opportunities for outdoor learning this week.
Our new class book 'The Storm Whale' has been a lovely story to read and we are beginning to learn the actions that will help us learn the whole story; we have also put the pictures from the story into the correct sequence. As part of our learning about the world around us, next week we will be looking at where whales live.
This week in maths we have been learning about 'doubles' using domino games as a hook, and everyone has worked really hard in understanding what a 'double' is. Next week we are moving on to halving and sharing which I'm certain will also become a skill the whole class can excel in.
We celebrated the Queen's Official Birthday earlier today (although it is not actually until tomorrow) with a whole-school picnic lunch outside which was a really nice occasion, particularly as the weather held - even though there's not many things more English than a picnic in the rain. Opportunities to have most of the school all together have been severely limited this year, so even though we were distanced in our bubbles, we could see a majority of the other classes enjoying their lunch 'al fresco'!
For our science experiment this term we have planted some broad beans to see how quickly they can grow, and which ones will grow the tallest - look out for update photos over the coming weeks, as the children are hopeful of seeing some shoots of growth as early as next week!
On the subject of next week, we are moving our church visit to St Oswald's from June 24th to June 17th - next Thursday, so it is definitely worth checking the weather report on Wednesday evening to see if any showers are likely as a rainproof jacket may be in order. I believe that it will be the first time that Reception have been up to the church to meet Rev. Sandi as a class, and I'm really looking forward to the visit.
Finally, just a brief reminder that for the remainder of this term, P.E. and Forest Schools are both on Friday.
Have a lovely weekend!
