Reception Blog - Week beginning 4th February
Date: 8th Feb 2019 @ 9:22am
This week we have continued looking at the story of ‘How to catch a star.’ Surprisingly, when we came into the classroom on Tuesday morning, a star was trapped on top of our overhead projector. As the children are extremely good detectives, they came up with a solution for retrieving the star and then wrote a set of instructions for how to get the star down. These will be tried and tested next week.
In Maths we have been learning about number bonds to 10. We focused on looking at how two different numbers add together to make the same total. Using numicon, marbles and counters, we started by looking at what you add to 0 to make 10, then 1 etc. When completing number bonds we recognise the importance of working systematically. If you would like to continue this work at home please follow the thinks below.

Also this week we have been celebrating Chinese New Year and 2019 will be the Year of the Pig. We learned about how the years came to be named after animals and we looked at how Chinese people, who live in the UK, celebrate. Throughout the morning we attempted to do some Chinese writing and we even got to try some yummy Chinese food!
We have lots of fun things planned for next week as we finish our work on stars and move onto to our Arctic topic after half term. See you all on Monday!
Kind regards,
Miss Wellings and Miss Sherliker
