Another busy week in Reception…
In Numeracy we have been learning how to ‘find the difference’ between two numbers. We used Numicon and number lines to help us. Money was a particularly interesting area as it allowed us to calculate change. Change is a tricky concept for all children so please try to allow opportunities to practise this out of school. Using self service checkouts or games such as http://www.iboard.co.uk/iwb/Correct-Change-706 allow the children to develop their understanding and practise their skills.
In Literacy we have been looking at the story ‘We’re Going on a Bear Hunt’ (one of my personal favourites!). We had on great fun on Tuesday conducting our own bear hunt! We then used this experience to compile lists of adjectives (The murky, cold water). The children generated some wonderful ideas and we even introduced commas! Very impressive Reception!
On Thursday our visiting teachers from Kenya, Christine and Daryl, spent the morning with us. We showed them how we tell stories and how we change them. We worked in our Kagan groups to create stories, such as ‘We’re Going on a Wizard Hunt’ before creating our own adaptations. The children had some lovely, imaginative ideas!
We have continued to develop our tennis skills in PE through developing our hand-eye coordination. The children really seem to be enjoying the sport!
In Phonics we have been looking at the sounds ur (fur), er (letter) and ir (girl). Please try to spot these sounds in books and practise writing words containing these sounds.
We are all very excited about our trip to Trentham Gardens next week! A letter should have come home explaining details such as what the children should wear. A copy is also displayed in our class window. Look out for photos at the end of next week!
Thank you for your continued support!
