This week in Reception...
the pupils have been showing everybody how grown up they are and how hard they can work. It would seem they are ready for Year 1 already! I can’t believe the children have entered their final few weeks in Reception! The year seems to have flown by.
In Numeracy this week we have been looking at number bonds to 10 (1+9, 2+8, 3+7 etc.). We looked at how this knowledge can help us solve sums really quickly. We have also been looking at doubling numbers. We had great fun doubling recipes and then weighing out the ingredients. Unfortunately we didn’t make cakes! Some great games to practise these skills are listed below:

In Literacy we have been writing captions for photographs. Towards the end of the week we learnt how to include connectives, such as ‘but’, ‘because’ and ‘even though’ to make super-duper, compound sentences. One examples was:
I liked the bare foot walk even though it hurt my feet.’
In Phonics we have been looking at:
Mrs Gleave’s Group – igh (high), i_e (kite) and ie (tie).
Miss Goff’s Group – ay (day) and ai (rain).
Please practise reading and spelling words containing these sounds. We are also making notes of words that the children are spelling incorrectly in their Literacy work and we have written these in Reading Diaries. We would really appreciate it if you could practise these words at home.
On Wednesday 10th June I will be out of school on a course. The teacher who covered me on Thursday 5th will be taking the class along with Mrs Gleave, in order to ensure consistency for the children. She has asked if the children could bring their teddy bears in ready for some story writing.
I hope those of you who are supporting our PTA and attending ‘Campelot’ this weekend have lots of fun and enjoy the (hopefully!) lovely weather! The members have certainly done a super job at setting the scene!
Finally, a big well done to Jess for being one of the winners for the Garden Party programme front cover!
Thank you for your continued support and if you have any questions please do pop in.
Kind regards,
Miss Goff
