Our half-termly visit to Church

Date: 11th May 2023 @ 4:32pm

This week, it was Year 4's turn to walk down to church. Looking at the gathering clouds with trepidation, we set off, wondering if we would return soaked to the skin.

After an uneventful walk and having met two very friendly dogs, we arrived at church to be greeted by Rev Sandi. Her focus this visit was about the necessity of rules and the consequences of ignoring them. Scarlett, Max and Theodore came to the front to hold up What? Why? and What if? For example, what is the rule about corridors? Why is it a rule to walk in a corridor? What if we didn't? Many angles were discussed as Rev Sandi brought the theme to the Ten Commandments and into the New Testamaent with 'Love thy neighbour'.

As ever, we sang the Creed set to the melody of Frere Jacques and we split into two groups to sing it as a round. It all finished off with a biscuit and some juice.

It was lovely to see the artwork each class created to commemorate the Coronation. These are large scale works and well worth a visit to see.

Just before we left, we checked Mrs Tice's pedometer to see how many steps it would be back to school. How would this walk relate to a day around York?

The children were beautifully quiet walking past the horses on the way back to school and arrived back without a drop of rain falling. What a relief!

And the step count? It was 1,500 steps from the church to school.

A day in York may well be 15 times that!

Thank you to Rev Sandi and St. Oswald's for a thoughtful and fun visit and thank you to members of Max's family for walking down with us. We look forward to next half term's.
