Our First Week in Y5
Date: 8th Sep 2023 @ 8:27pm
The children have had a wonderful first few days in Y5 and Mrs Field and I have been so impressed by their eagerness and enthusiasm!
We hope everyone had a wonderful summer. It has been lovely getting to know them and hearing all about their summer holidays.
This week we met Miss Richardson and welcomed her to our class. Miss Richardson is completing her final 6 weeks of teacher training with us this half term having completed placements in other CDAT schools. We are very lucky to have her working alongside us.
We have played some teamwork and getting to know you games and Mrs Wood was fascinated to find out all about the class from children with 17 dogs to those whose favourite animal is a chinchilla. Those who support Manchester City to those with golfing hobbies!
On Wednesday we were hooked into our new English text, The Errand, where we looked at an old satchel along with the words ‘Run swiftly, as fast as you can. There are dangers here. You know this.’ The children had some fantastic ideas making inferences about the character and predictions about the story.
We also started our new PSHE unit ‘Celebrating Difference’ looking at what a friend is and why we need friends. Then we played charades acting out some of the qualities and ‘not qualities’ of friendship.
We have also started our new maths unit on roman numerals and place value and the children were all very positive about Y5 maths. We have also revised Spanish greetings (their confidence and accents were amazing!) and completed our first RE lesson on the Bible.
On Monday, children will receive their homework books. Homework will be given out every Monday and needs to be handed back in by the following Monday so that we can mark them together in class. Children will record the pages that need to be completed in their planners.
Spelling will take place every Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. As we start each unit of spelling, these words will be written in planners so that children can also practise these at home.
PE will take place with Mr McAulay on Wednesdays so please can children come to school in their PE kit on this day.
Please take a look at our topic web and timetable on our class page which also highlights who will be teaching when.
If you need to speak to us, please send a message on Class Dojo or email [email protected].
