First Week in Y5

Welcome to Y5!

It has been a fantastic first week back and I am enjoying getting to know everyone. The children have been working hard. In maths we have been looking at Place Value of numbers to 90,000. In particular we have looked at adding and subtracting 10, 100 and 1000. In English we have been studying the poem 'Nightmail'. We looked at the ways of sending a message to someone now compared with when our parents and grandparents were young. We have also been reading our class novel 'Wonder' and started our Victorians topic.

Next week we will begin our guided reading from 'Cogheart', continue our work on place value and roman numerals and begin writing our own poems. PE will be on Wednesday (weather permitting) and Thursday.

Mrs Tice will also begin organising her music groups. If you have not already registered children for additional teaching, please speak to Mrs Henderson or Mrs Sant in the office. The only cost is £10 for the instrument hire.
