End of Spring 1 - Year 5

Hi All

I can’t believe that we are already half way through Year 5!

In Maths, we have been finishing off our unit on multiplying fractions, finding fractions of whole numbers and finding the whole. The children have continued to impress us with how they are tackling these lessons as there have been some rather challenging concepts, but they have shown great determination and perseverance. We have also continued with arithmetic lessons three times per week after lunch. These will give the children the opportunity to consolidate our learning from the autumn term, increasing their confidence and accuracy in these calculations. 

In English, we have written a narrative about a trip to space, as well as a report about our findings for our trip to Mars.  The children have done some lovely writing and you can see some examples if you look at the photos.

In Science, the children have started learning about space. This is a topic that we will continue with after half term- culminating with the visit of Moon rocks and meteorites to school.  

In History, we have learnt about the Shang Dynasty.

In D.T,  we had to design and make a doodler.

In P.E, we have been learning how to play Tag Rugby and this week we completed Team Building activities.

In R.E, we have been learning about sin and forgiveness.  We have visited church and had Rev Sandi working with us in class.

We have also had weekly My Happy Mind lessons to help us with our wellbeing.
