Christmas Week Year 4
Date: 15th Dec 2022 @ 1:37pm
It is to be expected that the children will have an exciting week this week- many children have brought in cards and of course they have had a chance to make their own cards too. There has been so much packed into this week that I am hoping we have worn them out for you for a few days!
Firstly, the week began with our usual Monday morning assembly, reminding us that we are in the third week of Advent. Our candles were lit and we thought more about the long and arduous journey Mary and Joseph would have had to have taken, travelling over a hundred miles from Nazareth to Bethlehem. We considered what we would like to do as we step into the New Year.
When the children returned to class, they found out a new pupil had been added to the register: Jesus! We discussed if the absence or presence of someone can change the atmosphere and energy within a room. What would it be like if we felt Jesus was present in every room we moved between?
These themes were taken up throughout the week as we made our own artworks and found out how the presence of Jesus in people’s lives can influence their actions.
In addition to our RE work, we have also been busy designing, making and evaluating (that’s tasting!) biscuits. Miss Mitton is well-known for her baking skills and we were lucky enough to have her in class to guide us through the methods of the crumb stage, combining into a dough, rolling out (without sticking to the table!), cutting and baking. It was a great success!
On Tuesday afternoon, the children had a fantastic time at their party. Mr McAulay took the reins. There is a separate blog with many photos on it.
As the week drew to a close, the children rehearsed their carols, completed their RE work, watched a Christmas film and published their twisted tales that they have been working so hard on throughout this half term.
It has been a joy to teach Year 4 this term and I am looking forward to seeing everyone after Christmas. Wishing you a peaceful, fun-filled break.
