Child Mental Health week

Date: 8th Feb 2019 @ 4:26pm

Good afternoon everyone!

I thought I'd take this opportunity this week to write a little about the other aspects of the curriculum that we have been teaching in Year 3 this term. These are the things that don't get necessarily get mentioned on the topic web, but play an important part in the education your children receive at Brereton.

So far this term we have explored keeping safe on the roads and the class have also had a First Aid lesson with Mrs. Taylor which you may have already seen some pictures of on the school Facebook page.

This week we have had a lesson for Safer Internet Day and a further one for Child Mental Health week. I am particularly passionate about the mental health of children and young people and try to make mindfulness and relaxation a regular part of my week teaching the children. The three aspects of improving mental health focused on this year have been the food we eat, the exercise we take and the importance of having calm time before bed.

Below you may find a picture taken while the class were practising some relaxation and I can recommend a website called Go Noodle which has a number of exercises that are worth taking a look at.

Next week as I'm sure you know will be our SRE week and the class will be:

  • Learning about the differences between males and females and to name body parts
  • Considering different types of touch that people do and don't like, and understanding personal space
  • Exploring different types of families and to identify who they can go to for help and support

I'm sure that you all understand how important these lessons are for children and I hope that you find opportunity to talk about what they have learnt next week. If you have any concerns or questions myself or Mrs Pulle will be very happy to speak to you.

Enjoy your weekend!
