I hope you all enjoyed the class assembly and the children feel rightly proud of their performance.
Over the last two weeks children have been working on fractions and percentages. They have been finding a common denominator to order and compare fractions. This has sometimes involved working beyond their times tables knowledge. It is crucial that all children have a secure knowledge of all tables to 12x12.
Children could try these problems at home:
Mrs Wood marked 2/3 of her books on Tuesday and the other 15 on Wednesday. How many books did she have to mark?
Which of these is the largest fraction? 4/5, 5/6 or 6/7?
We have also been looking at finding percentages of amounts. All children should be able to find 10%, 50% and 1% of numbers. Using these facts they are able to find all other percentages. Some children have also been solving problems using percentages.
Children could try this at home:
If I have a pot of counters which are 50% red, 35% blue, 10% yellow and 5% purple.
What is the fewest number of each counter I could have?
