Year 6

Friday 9th May 2025

This week has proved to be quite productive; we have revised and prepped ready for our SAT’s next week and feel quietly confident.

In Maths, we completed our unit on statistics, we looked at how to read and interpret different types of charts, also how to calculate and interpret mean averages from sets of data. The key words for this section are continuous data, discrete data, and pie chart.  Once we felt confident in this area of maths, we were able to answer increasingly complex questions and solve problems using a range of data.

In English, we gathered ideas for an endurance narrative, we focused on the characters to begin with and described their manners and their inner thoughts and determination.  We then spent time revising spelling and grammar questions so we felt confident for next week.

In Art, we continued our learning on digital media.  Digital art, previously known as computer art, is any form of artistic work that uses technology during the creative process. Digital art doesn’t need to be entirely computer-generated, it can be scanned or simply include some aspects created by technology. The prominence of digital art began in the 1950s, when artists and designers began using technological devices to create or manipulate pieces of work.  It wasn’t until the 1980s, however, that digital technologies became more accessible and common. In the early 1980s a paint program was developed, known as AARON, and it was used by the artist Harold Cohen to create drawings.  We focused on the artist Stephen McMennamy, who has a great eye for what will go well together and what he comes up with is unbelievable. His images are always made up of two images made into one at one cross-section that blends them almost seamlessly together.  We had such fun creating images together.

In P.E we played rounders in the sunshine, it was glorious.  We practised throwing and catching to begin with then the games began.

In Computing, we looked at how to stay safe online.  Here are some rules we recapped on:

Be sensible with your passwords. Only share them with trusted adults, such as parents, carers or guardians.

Don't click on links you don’t recognise.

Don't share your personal details, such as your real name, address or the school you go to, with anyone you meet online.

Don't open anything or download files from a website or content provider that you don't know or trust.

Be careful and mindful about what you post online.

Ultimately, if you see anything online that makes you feel uncomfortable or upset, you should:

REPORT - Report via the online site that you experienced it on, then tell a trusted adult about it and ask for help.

SAVE - Keep evidence; take screenshots.

BLOCK - Block the person or group of people responsible.

The school photographer will be in next Friday 16th May, all the children need

to wear full school uniform please.

We hope you all have a wonderful, restful weekend, we do recommend early nights to promote good sleep and a hearty breakfast ready to start each day.  The children will need a plain water bottle and a reading book each day, all of the equipment needed will be provided by school, so please don’t worry.

So Year 6, the time has finally come,

The dreaded SATs are here,

But this is what you’ve worked for,

Since you moved up in to this year.

These tests will tell us what you’ve learned,

And what you can recall,

But there’s a million things,

The SATs won’t tell us at all.

They won’t tell us how you dance,

Or draw, or sing, or run,

Or tell us just how great you are,

At any other things you’ve done.

The SATs don’t measure super-ness,

Or how kind or brave you are,

They’re just a way of helping to see,

All you’ve learned so far.

So all we ask of each of you,

Is to try the best you can,

But no matter the score you’ll get,

We’ll always be your fan!

You’ve worked your socks off this year through,

And now the time has come

By this time next week, you can say,

Phew, the SATs are done.

So rest up, eat lots and get some sleep,

So you’re ready and raring to go,

To show those SATs test who’s the boss,

And show them what you know!

But remember that when they’re over,

It doesn’t matter how you’ve done,

Because you are wonderful, brilliant and fab,

And you’ll be amazing in your lives to come!

Believe in yourself. You are all amazing!

 Friday 2nd May  2025

We would like to start our blog by saying how incredibly proud we are of Year 6 this week. We are just over a week away from SATs so as you can imagine, we are very busy! We are all working so hard to practice, recap and revise everything we have learnt over the past few years, plus a few new concepts. We will continue with our revision next week and we are sure it will all be worth it when we can all walk into the hall confident in everything we have learnt.

As well as revision, we have continued to look at our new text, Shackleton's Journey. We have written a setting description of Antarctica and a diary entry from Shackleton's crew based on this and have really thought about our language choices and using lots of the punctuation we have been practicing.

We have really worked hard in maths- looking at angles in shapes and reading and drawing graphs. We have also practiced maths fluency and previously taught concepts every morning.

In art, we have continued to look at digital art and have started to plan and create our own pieces. We really enjoyed using the computers to find objects that we would blend together to create our work.

We have also done rounders and quick cricket with Mr Aspinall, focusing on throwing and catching skills as well as batting. We then competed against each other in teams. In forest school, we were building shelters just like the crew in Shackleton's journey, although we were slightly warmer than them in this warm weather!

Next week promises to be another busy one with our learning exhibition! We are looking forward to showing you all what we have been doing over the past term and how much we have learnt, there might also be a few tests in there for you!

Wishing you all a wonderful bank holiday weekend!
