Year 2 w/b 8th July

What a wonderful week we have had in Year Two!

In English, we have been planning our invention narratives. It has been wonderful to see everyone’s creative and unique ideas and I thoroughly enjoyed reading their plans. We are looking forward to writing up our narratives next week.

In spelling this week, our first spelling rule has been adding the suffix -ness. We learnt that if a root word ends in a consonant + y, we swap the y for an i before adding the suffix -ness. This rule applies for words such as dizziness, bossiness and jolliness. Our second spelling rule has been words ending in -el. This rule applies for words such as angel, camel and tinsel.

In maths this week, we have worked on reasoning and problem solving. We have been focusing on finding multiple answers to the same questions and increasing our confidence in choosing a starting point and using trial and improvement to work from it. We have also looked at identifying what we know from a question and using it to work out unknowns.

On Monday, we spent some time outside in the sunshine and enjoyed practising for sports day. We practised sprinting, relaying and our favourite... the suitcase race. We are so excited for Monday!

On Thursday morning, we all enjoyed a special visit from Mrs Watson, who works at Muller, as part of our STEM week. Mrs Watson told us all about her job role and what happens during a usual day at Muller including where they collect milk from and the shops they sell it to. We even had the chance to see the milk collection truck and try some yummy Shaken Udder milkshake!

In science, we have completed our end of unit quiz for our ‘materials’ unit.

On Friday, we were super excited for a move up day in Year 3 with Mrs Taylor and Mr McAulay. We enjoyed spending time in our new classroom and completing fun activities.

I look forward to seeing everybody next week for our last week of Year 2!
