Year 2 w/b 12th September
Date: 16th Sep 2022 @ 6:45pm
What another fantastic week we have had in Year Two!
In English this week children have been so excited and full of enthusiasm to learn our text map for ‘The Bog Baby’. After this, we focused on identifying structural and language features within the model text. The children worked hard to analyse the text and colour code these features to demonstrate their understanding. We are very much looking forward to planning our own finding narratives next week using different magical creatures.
In RE, we read the story of ‘Moses and the Burning Bush’ where children had the opportunity to be Moses on the hot seat and answered questions such as “Why do you think God spoke to you?”. Afterwards children discussed the most important thing this story might tell Christians about God and decided that God cared for the Israelite people and wanted Moses to help them. In remembrance of Queen Elizabeth II, in Forest School children enjoyed making crowns out of clay and used leaves, feathers and acorns to add extra detail.
In Science, children have participated in great discussion surrounding what things make us happy compared to what things we need to survive and decided that sometimes these can be quite different! After this, we discussed what five things an animal needs to survive. Later in the week, we discovered what is meant by an ‘aerial photograph’ and ‘plan perspective’ in Geography. We discussed that if there were new children starting in our class, we would need to help them by drawing a plan view of our classroom. I was very impressed with the skill and teamwork that children demonstrated.
The children were, once again, superb gymnasts in our PE lesson. Children practised counterbalances, rolls and travelling movements. It was great to see so many fantastic bunny hops and caterpillar rolls!
In maths this week, we began our first Year 2 Power Maths unit: ‘Numbers to 100’. We have been focusing on: counting objectives to 100, recognising how many tens and ones a number has, partitioning a number into tens and ones and representing numbers on a place value grid.
On Thursday afternoon, children were so excited and enthusiastic to have Music taught by Mrs Tice. Children explored pitch (how squeaky or deep a song is) and learned a new song about Goldilocks and the Three Bears. We cannot wait for our next music lesson next Thursday!
We hope now that you can all enjoy an extended weekend and time to reflect on Queen Elizabeth’s duty , service, faith and responsibility. We look forward to seeing everyone on Tuesday morning .If you have any questions, do not hesitate to ask via email, Dojo or through a note in reading diaries.
