Year 1 WC 10th September 2018

Date: 14th Sep 2018 @ 9:58pm

We have had a brilliant week in Year 1. The children are settling into their new routines and have all worked really hard.

On Monday, Mr Spilsbury interrupted our lesson with news that some multicoloured eggs had been found in the school grounds! With the help of Year 2, we tiptoed outside for a closer look and sure enough there were four coloured eggs, one of which had already hatched. After much discussion, we concluded that they must belong to a dragon!

In our English lessons this week we have been learning a story map about a boy called George who found three mischievous little dragons that followed him everywhere after he made the mistake of feeding them delicious stale biscuits and smelly cheese. The children have then writtten some 'WANTED' posters using adjectives to describe their dragon.

On Tuesday we had our visit from Little Harts Pottery. It was a wonderfully calm start to our day as the children concentrated on painting their dragons so carefully. They have now been taken to be fired and will be returned to school next week. Before the children take them home, we'd like to keep them for a little bit longer to form part of a display.

In Maths we have been counting forwards and backwards. To deepen our understanding we have been learning how to explain our answers. For example:

Billy is counting. He says:

13, 14, 15, 61, 17, 18

Which is the odd one out and why? We all knew which number was the odd one out but what was a little bit trickier was being able to explain why and what Billy had done wrong.

In RE we have been exploring the question 'what is good news'? We thought about times when we had received good news and what would Jesus consider to be 'good news'.

In our topic work we looked at Google Earth and found where the UK was. We learnt that the UK is made up of England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. In addition we learnt what their capital cities are.

It is great to see so many children reading regularly at home. Children get reading Dojo points for each day they read at home so please record in the planner when they do so.

Thank you for all your support.
