Welcome to Y6
Date: 16th Sep 2017 @ 7:29pm
Welcome back. I hope everyone enjoyed their summer break.
The children have made a good start to Year 6 and are particularly enjoying their new responsibility of supporting our Reception children.
In maths we have been working on place value of numbers to 10 000 000. Children have been thinking about the values of each digit within the number, interpreting pictorial representations, comparing and ordering large numbers. We have also started rounding. Next week we will continue rounding as well as working with negative numbers.
In English we have completed some SPAG work looking at clauses as well as beginning work on our new text: The Princess' Blankets. We were fortunate to have a visit from His Majesty King Collier who asked his loyal subjects to find ways to warm the Princess. He has offered half his kingdom as reward and so children have been working hard on creative and imaginative ways to warm her. Next week we will be focusing on writing a letter to the King before investigating how to write fantastic descriptions. Looking out for descriptions in reading, particularly the use of adjectives and senses will support this work.
We will also continue our work on 'Healthy Bodies' looking at diet and exercise. Topic this week will focus on the Magna Carta and our British Values this week will focus on individual liberty.
Of course, the week begins with an exciting visit to Clonter Opera. Children need a packed lunch and a waterproof coat. They will need to wear their usual uniform and do not need to bring any money.
I'm not quite sure how we'll fit it all in!

P.S. Bike ability takes place on the 26th and 27th of September. Children are welcome to bring their bikes on Monday 25th or the morning of Tuesday 26th September. Mr Spillsbury will bring bikes inside overnight. Children will complete one morning and one afternoon session over the 2 days. This means that some children will miss swimming that week. I will write a note in planners for the children who WILL still be swimming.
