I hope everyone is having a lovely half term and enjoying their break from school.
The first week back is a busy one in year 4. A reminder that we are back into school this Monday for a five week half term before Easter. We will be continuing our focus on multiplication and spelling this half term. If you wish to help at home with any of these our main spelling focus will be on the suffixes tion, cian and year 4 spelling words.
In maths we will be focussing on multiplication, division, statistics and revisiting place value to ensure all children have a solid knowledge of our number system.
In literacy, Mrs Saunders and I are very much looking forward to starting our next unit on adventure stories using the text, 'Adventures at Sandy Cove'. We have lots of exciting activities planned including drama, which always inspires the children's imaginations leading to some super writing. As part of the literacy lessons, SPAG (spelling, punctuation and grammar) is also included in each lesson. To help at home these are some games that you can play:
- Word tennis: this is a two player game and can be done with different word classes. E.g you could play this with nouns. Partner A says a noun, partner B has five seconds to say another noun and so on. You can make it harder by adding rules such as each word must start with the letter 's', or the next word starts with the last letter of the word before.
- Alphabets: write the alphabet down the side of your page. Can you think of a noun/verb/adjective for each letter of the alphabet?
- Silly sentences: choose a letter, then think of a noun, adjective, verb and adverb starting with that letter. Next, make up a silly sentence using as many of the words as you can. E.g. The large leopard laughed loudly.
This weeks spellings are as follows:
invention |
injection |
action |
hesitation |
completion |
population |
addition |
reflection |
