Year 6 w/b 4/11/19

Date: 9th Nov 2019 @ 10:12am

It has been lovely to see the children back in school refreshed after half term.

We have started our writing based on ‘The Arrival’ which is a wonderfully intriguing wordless book. The outcomes from this work will be first person story writing. This week we have been building our skills in carefully selecting verbs and adjectives to convey meaning and atmosphere. You could help at home by looking out for them in reading or having a go at writing yourself based on a picture.

In maths we have moved on from simplifying fractions to comparing and ordering as well as adding and subtracting. This work requires the children to have a good knowledge of their times tables to spot common factors and multiples.

In PE we have started our tag rugby work with Sale Sharks and, despite a very wet afternoon, children were able to work on their movement, defense skills and teamwork. We will be continuing this work on Wednesday. The coach commented on the high level of sporting talent and ability in the class. We will also be working on sportsmanship, teamwork and cooperation.

On Monday we will be walking to church at 9:30 for our remembrance service. Please join us if you can.

In topic we are continuing our work on WW2, specifically looking at evacuees and the holocaust. We have our stay and make design and technology afternoon on Wednesday 20th November starting at 1:30. We will be making motorised model vehicles based on military WW2 vehicles. Basic kits will be provided, but please bring along anything to make the models extra special. Children will be able to bring their models home, but there will be a £3.50 charge to cover the cost of the kits.

I hope to see many of you there.
