Year 6- another busy week!

Date: 20th May 2022 @ 3:57pm

The week began in jubilant style! We were visited by Ann Peach as we looked at the life and duties of HRH The Queen. This inspired us to write poems, humourous and formal, to print as postcards to give to members of the Brereton community. This is an initiative thought up by Ethos council and Mrs Pulle and seeks to reach out to the wider community outside school. Next week, for the jubilee, we will complete some line drawings of The Queen for a whole-school display.

Later in the week, we had more visitors in class, this time virtually, as we welcomed the Red Cross. They spoke to the children about the Four Pillars of Resilience as we ready Year 6 for transition to high school.

In English this week, we have been beginning to build a balanced argument. The children voted for a debate of their choice, settling on 'Should we ban Animal Testing?' As a balanced argument, we then began to look at both points of view, for or against, and the appropriate language so as not to give away our true opinion but to represent equally the opposing views. We will continue this next week.

In Maths, we deepened our Geometry problem solving as we looked at calculating angles within shapes given certain key pieces of information.

Next week, we will audition for parts in the end of year show, Matilda. If your child would like to audition, spend some time this weekend on YouTube rehearsing with a karaoke version of the songs: The Hammer, Naughty and When I Grow Up. There will be other speaking parts also and for these we have suggested getting to know a portion of the Danny DeVito film or a portion of dialogue from the original book. We are hoping that the children will show initiative and motivation regarding this so have left their choice quite open. We are looking for stage presence and bags of character!

Wishing you a fabulous weekend!
