Year 5 - Week Beginning 28/11/16

Date: 28th Nov 2016 @ 9:53am

Last week children completed a range of assessments in maths, reading, spelling, punctuation and grammar. The results of these assessments will be sent home in children's planners tomorrow. You will receive the raw score e.g. 31/40 and an indication of where children are compared to the national standard e.g emerging, expected, exceeding.

Please remember that these assessments are the children's first attempt at the year 5 curriculum and they will be assessed again in spring and summer once the full Y5 curriculum has been taught. If you wish to discuss the results of the assessments with me please speak to me on the playground or call the school office to make an appointment.

This week is, once again, action packed. In maths, we are focusing on multiplying decimals, solving problems and area. In English, children will be working on their explanation writing using our new text - Until I Met Dudley. This afternoon we have a visit from John Bishop who will be talking to the children about aspirations and aiming high. Tomorrow we have our theatre visit to see 'The SnowQueen'.

As a reminder, many children are handing homework in late and sometimes not at all. English is given out in their red books every Monday and is due in on Wednesday. Maths is set on mymaths every Wednesday and is due in on Friday. We are reminding children in school, but supporting this at home would really help.

Many thanks,

Mrs Wood
