Year 4 w/b 30.9.19

Date: 4th Oct 2019 @ 4:45pm

We have had a very busy few weeks in school, with two school visits, bikeability and the Harvest Service! The church service with Reverend Sandi on Thursday was also wonderful! We have been looking at the prefix auto in spellings, which means self or ow, for example, autobiography.

In Maths this week we have been focusing on place value using thousands, hundreds, tens and ones; we have been ordering and comparing numbers, rounding to the nearest 1000 and looking at negative numbers.

In English we have been following the journey of Shackleton and his crew, writing a variety of short burst pieces, as well as looking at features of a newspaper report. On Wednesday we started to write an extended piece of writing- a newspaper report about Shackleton’s journey.

In topic, we have been sketching and creating artwork in the style of Linda Lang, as well as researching the effects of global warming on the polar regions and wildlife.

In PE we have been working on passing in netball; in RE we have been answering questions about our good news story from the Bible.

All instrument letters have gone home now and music lessons will be every Monday. Once you have signed the letter, please take your instruments home to practise. Try to make sure these are brought back in for the Monday.

Please ensure your child is reading daily at home. Reading is such an important part of the curriculum and ties into everything. Please find something on our recommended reads list if your child hasn’t got a reading book at the moment.

If you have any questions, please ask.
