Year 3 WC 8.1.18

Date: 16th Jan 2018 @ 9:23pm

Welcome back to a new term. I’d like to take this opportunity to thank you for your generous gifts. I hope you have all had a lovely Christmas and new year.

We’ve had a busy start to our new term. In maths we are continuing with multiplication and division. The children need to understand the relationship between multiply and divide, so if we know 3 x 4 = 12, we also know that 12 divided by 4 = 3. We are now working on multiplying and dividing multiples of 10. The best way to help at home is practise, practise and more practise of times tables (and division facts) with particular focus on the 2s, 3s, 4s, 5s, 8s and 10s.

In English we are writing tales of suspense. In our hook lesson, we dived under the parachute and imagined we were camping. As we sat listening, we heard peculiar sounds, footsteps and creatures of the night. What could they be? What makes these noises so scary? We have since been looking at how suspense is created in our story, Staying Out and also looking at what other authors do.

In Science we have been investigating the force needed to pull a shoe across different surfaces. This involved the children using lots of Working Scientifically skills such as setting up their investigation, using a Forcemeter to accurately measure the forces, presenting their results and drawing conclusions.
