Year 3 WC 21st October 2017

Date: 27th Oct 2017 @ 4:40pm

We've had a super busy but very fun week in Year 3. It has been wonderful to meet you all at parent consultations.

In Science we have been learning all about Mary Anning and how she discovered the fossil of an ichthyosaur. The children used role play to act out her story, then we hot-seated Jess as Mary to find out how she felt. This gave us some great ideas for our newspaper reports.

In English we have been finishing our unit on newspaper reports. I am really pleased the effort the children put into these and have produced some great writing as a result.

In Maths we have been practising all the mental methods we have learnt to add and subtract three digtis and one/tens/hundreds. After half term we'll be moving onto formal written methods (the column method).

Your child will have brought home a scrapbook today. This is inspired by Michael Morpurgo's 'Where My Wellies Take Me...'. If you want some ideas, Amazon allow you to 'look inside'. This is more than just a diary of what they have been doing but can include all kinds of pictures, photos, souvenirs, etc. From these they can write poems, diaries, stories, etc. We look forward to sharing them after half term.
