Year 3 WC 21st May 2018

Date: 28th May 2018 @ 10:39pm

I hope you are all enjoying the beautiful weather.

We had a fantastic trip to Chester Zoo on Monday. In our workshop, we learnt all about the importance of the rainforest and the effects of deforestation. We got to learn all about the different animals and plants in the rainforest which was very interesting. There were lots of hands-on activities: we got to feel a snake skin, look at an animal's skull and even smell a jaguar's urine! (This was certainly not pleasant on a warm day!)

On returning to school, we used what we had learnt to write a story about a rainforest animal whose home was threatened due to deforestation. The children wrote some brilliant stories applying everything we have been learning and trying to include it in their writing.

In maths, we have been recapping the column method for addition and subtraction. To challenge us further we looked at how to solve calculations with missing digits. We also looked at some calculations like these:

______ + 156 = 724 - 355

After half term, we will be continuing with our work on Brazil. We are looking forward to welcoming Art Brazil in a few weeks for a morning of music and dance.

In Science, we will be finishing our topic on plants before moving onto our bodies and the digestive system. Later in June, we will be having a whole school Healthy Living Week with a focus on PE and Science.

I am very excited about our summer show, Bugzy Malone, which we will start rehearsals for after half term. Year 3 will be learning Fat Sam's Grand Slam and Down and Out. The words will be sent home for the children to learn so please forgive me for telling them to practise at every opportunity!
