Year 3 Summer term welcome back

Date: 15th Apr 2018 @ 10:28pm

I hope you've all had a wonderful Easter break. During the holidays I have found the time to catch up on some reading. One book which I've particularly enjoyed is called The Explorer by Katherine Rundell which links very nicely to our topic of the rainforest this term. We'll be reading this as our class novel over the next term.

This term our topic is Brazil. As our previous topics have been more history based, this one will have more of a geography focus. We'll be using atlases and the internet to locate Brazil and learn about what it is like to live there. We'll also be learning about the rainforest which is always a favourite with the children (and me). We'll be finding out about the different layers of the rainforest and the animals that live there. At the end of this half term, we will be visiting Chester Zoo to link with this. More details about this will be sent out soon.

In maths we will be continuing with fractions. This week we are focusing on equivalent fractions, and being able to represent these using different objects and drawings. Here are some of the types of questions we'll be answering:

In English, we'll be using The Tin Forest for inspiration for our writing. This is beautful picture book which I think the children will really enjoy learning from.

Our spotlight author is Ted Hughes and therefore in guided reading, we'll be studying The Iron Man.

Swimming will continue on Wednesday afternoons. We'll also be doing tennis and rounders in PE.
