Year 3 class blog w/b 27th September

Date: 3rd Oct 2021 @ 7:45pm

We have had an interesting fortnight in Year 3! Many thanks for all of your support at home with reading and homework. If you need logins for TT Rockstars, please let me know so that you can practise 2s, 5s and 10s (and then 3s, 4s and 8s). Little and often would be the best approach (5-10 minutes per day).

Maths

This week we started to look at addition and subtraction, adding one digit to three digit numbers, as well as taking one digit from three digits (e.g. 254+5 and 279-6. WE have also looked at where the ten is bridged or an exchange is needed e.g. 267+6 and 892-6). We will work towards 3 digit + 3 digit numbers and 3 digit- 3 digit numbers.

English

The children have planned and written a wonderful, descriptive setting description over the past week, writing a new paragraph each day. We have focused on using expanded noun phrases and prepositions.

We have now read six chapters of Oliver and the Sea Wigs, focusing on inference, prediction, vocabulary and summarising. We have now covered three spelling rules so far in Year 3.

Other areas of the curriculum

This week in Science, we have continued to experiment and explore magnets, looking at how each pole repels or attracts, as well as which magnets are stronger.

In Forest School, we enjoyed making rivers using the forest area- we ensured we had a source on high ground (where the river starts), a channel and a mouth (where it ends). In RE, we have been reading and finding out about the Calming of the Storm. In PSHE, we have been thinking about how our positive and negative actions affect others.

In Geography this week, we have been continuing to think about the parts of a river; we looked at the River Thames as possibly one of the most famous rivers of the UK. We identified the source and mouth using maps and any other physical or human features we could find.

On Thursday, we enjoyed a service with Reverend Sandi, where she told us all about Baptisms.

Please let me know if you have any questions.
