Year 1 WC 25th March 2019

Date: 30th Mar 2019 @ 9:22pm

This week we have started our new English unit, The Three Little Pigs. For our hook lesson the children worked in Kagan groups and were all given some sheets of paper and a roll of masking tape. Their task was to make a house strong enough to hold the Big Bad Wolf on it's roof. Each group showed great teamwork and resilience to complete their challenge. Then as a group they wrote a short explanation of what they did. In our next lesson we used role play to decide why the pigs decided to leave home. Had Mother Pig had enough of their messy ways and kick them out or did they decide to leave? The children had some brilliant ideas and produced some fantastic writing as a result, well done Year 1!

In maths we have started our unit on measure. Children have been using non-standard and standard units of measure. This week we'll be going on to weight and capacity. To help with your child's understanding, please make the most of opportunities at home to explore these, e.g. weighing ingredients, comparing the weight of objects and looking at various bottles/containers to compare capacity.

There will be no spelling test this week as we'll be completing end of term assessments in reading; spelling, punctuation and grammar; and maths. I have sent home all the spellings we have covered this term so please practise both reading and spelling these words.
