Year 1 WC 15th October 2018

Date: 20th Oct 2018 @ 8:56pm

Firstly I would like to start by thanking everyone that attended the Stay and Make on Tuesday. It was a fantastic afternoon and the children really enjoyed making their models.

This week we have been innovating our instructions in English. After learning 'How to Trap a Dragon', the children then created their own instructions about how to trap a different creature such as a troll, a giant, a leopard etc. We had some very imaginative ideas including sending a giant to sleep, using invisible nets and enticing their creature with a scrumptious stone burger. This week the children will be publishing their work using their lovely handwriting they have been working so hard on over the last several weeks.

In maths we have been finding number bonds to different numbers. We also learnt what working 'systematically' means. For example, when finding bonds to 12, we start with 1+11, 2+10, 3+9 etc. We still have lots of work to do before the end of the half term so we'll be continuing with addition for the next week. My Maths will be set for Monday which will give the children opportunity to practise their number bonds. Here are the links for Alien Addition and Coconut Ordering. These are great fun and the numbers can be changed to make the activity easier/harder.

In RE we watched the creation story as told in the Bible. Following this, we discussed how Christians describe God and why this story is important to us. The children agreed that God loves the world and everything in it because he made it, just like how we love the things that we make. When we give our mums and dads something that we have made with love, they look after it and keep it safe. This is what we should do with our world. God made it for us, so we should say thank you by looking after it, showing kindness to each other and showing respect.
