Year 1 Summer Term

Date: 21st Apr 2015 @ 2:38pm

Welcome back to all of the Year 1 children and their families,

I hope you have had a wonderful Easter break! It has been lovely to see the children again and hear all about their wonderful 2 weeks off. They must have eaten lots of Easter eggs, as they all seem to have grown.

Our new topic for the summer term is 'Hooray ... Let's go On Holiday'

We will be learning about two contrasting places; London and being on Safari in Africa.

The children have chosen our spotlight authors this term based on their love for rhyming books and repettive language. Our spotlight Authors will be ... Giles Andreae and Damian Harvey.

I have attached our topic web, so you can see all the exciting things that will be taught this term.

Here are some images of the Year 1 classroom, ready for a busy summer term. We have 2 topic areas within the classroom this term ...

LONDON: We have a London Bus and underground ticket station. Filled with small world play items of London landmarks, writing opportunities and a range of books. As well as a beefeater costume!

SAFARI: Here we have an African hut complete with dressing up clothes for St Lwanga Primary School and Jeep rides. We have fiction and non-fiction books and small world safari animals. The children can also practise counting to 10 in swahili using the flashcards.

I hope the children have a wonderful summer term to end their Year 1 journey.

Thank you for your continued support

Miss Phillips
