Year 1 class blog w/b 6.9.17

Date: 10th Sep 2017 @ 9:00pm

We have had a fantastic first week back as year 1s! The children have all settled back in with ease and have enjoyed exploring their new classroom. I have enjoyed hearing all of the children’s wonderful news. Thank you for all of the posters and creations to do with your child’s favourite books. They are now in our book corner area!

This week we have focused on British Values. We have explored the Royal Family, who are an important part of our society. Furthermore, we have looked at the fact that we are a democracy by having the chance to vote for the charity that we would like our jar of money to be donated to. Our class decided we would like to donate the jar of money to a local charity who support the sick and elderly. If you have any spare change throughout the year and would like to donate anything to this cause, it would be greatly appreciated.

We have also explored the different religions and faiths that are in the world, focusing on how we can be respectful towards their beliefs.

We have also begun to look at place value in maths as well as character descriptions of fairy tale characters in English. Thank you for your support already writing in reading diaries. Reading books will be changed on Mondays and Fridays, but children are welcome to independently change their own books on other days if they have read their books already.

On Monday spellings and details about homework will be given out. Year 1 do not currently have MyMaths logins but I will let you know once these are available and how to use it if necessary.

I hope you have had a lovely weekend.
