Welcome back

Date: 6th Sep 2020 @ 1:41pm

Welcome back everyone. I hope you have had a lovely summer together with your families. I hope that you managed to see the homework note in your child’s new planner. If you have any issues, please write a note and prompt your child to show me their planners. I will endeavour to communicate as much as possible using planners, blogs, the website and emails as needed.

We had a lovely first two days back in Year 4 and the children settled in very well to the new routines, such as extra hand washing and the new bubble system at breaks and lunchtimes. As well as completing some initial assessments in Maths and English, so I know how best to support children and close any gaps in knowledge, we also enjoyed our new class novel the Iron Man and our guided reading text the BFG. Our new spelling rules covers the prefixes dis and in, which give the root word the opposite meaning or often mean not e.g. incomplete (not complete).

In English our classroom over break time was transformed into a circus on Wednesday! We entered the classroom and received tickets to the circus from the circus master (it definitely wasn’t me!), before watching some of the show. Using this stimulus, we then completed a ‘cold piece’ story which I will use as an initial assessment.

In Maths, we completed an arithmetic assessment and looking at these, the focus will be on the four operations over the coming weeks.

We enjoyed an art session during one afternoon, where we completed a technical sketch in our sketchbooks. We have also enjoyed team building and outdoor learning opportunities in the afternoons, such as when the children had to build the tallest structure using cocktail sticks and marshmallows!

Please get in touch if you have any queries or concerns.
