Week beginning 3.10.16

Date: 9th Oct 2016 @ 2:39pm

We have had a super week in year 2, which ended with a fantastic performance by all the children at our Harvest service. Year 5 did a great job of leading the service and it was brilliant to see all of the children's performances of poems, songs and prayers. Thank you for helping your child to learn their part of the poem we performed. We thought they did a fantastic job!

In phonics this week we looked at the 'wr' sound which comes at the start of some words e.g. wrap, wrote and written. We discussed and investigated the rule and discussed how the 'w' is silent. Once again the children did very well with their spellings. Thank you for all of your support at home. Well done to James, our Star Speller, for his excellent observations of many words with the 'wr' rule, as well as the 'gn', 'kn', 'ci, 'ce' and 'cy' sounds.

In literacy this week, we have been learning the story of Kassim and the Dragon, in our Talk for Write unit. Next week we will use our story map to try to think of our own characters and innovate our own story.

In maths we have been adding and taking away, focussing on problem solving e.g. missing box problems, such as 13+?=20 and word problems. We discussed that we need to read the problem carefully, underline the key information, decide if it's addition or subtraction and then solve the calculation.

In topic we compared the lives of Queen Elizabeth I and Queen Elizabeth II, using the class computers to research further information. In PE we focussed on dribblling and passing skills. In science we made some display work, which was all about our healthy eating topic.

Thank you again for your support with homework.

If you have any queries or problems, please ask.
