Week beginning 26.9.16

Date: 2nd Oct 2016 @ 2:33pm

We have had a great week once more in year 2! The spelling results were significantly better, which just shows how tricky the rule we were looking at was last week. This week we looked at words which start with 'gn' and 'kn', which have the 'n' sound, but have a silent letter at the start. Congratulations to Will Harper, who was our Star Speller for his excellent spelling result this week. Thank you again for your support at home with reading, spelling practice and homework.

In maths this week we started by assessing the children using some tricky year 2 tests, which indicated areas of the curriculum that we need to focus on. We then continued the week by looking at addition, including number bonds and adding two numbers that contain two digits. (e.g. 25+ 21) We used partitioning to split the number into tens and units. e.g. 20+20=40 and 5+1 =6, so 40+6= 46.)

In literacy we finished our talk for writing stories about Jack and the dragon, and we were absolutely blown away with the standard of writing. Our class certainly have some wonderful ideas. Many thanks for your help at home with the dragon eggs, which we enjoyed describing. We also looked at describing our dragon using similes, such as 'he is as gigantic as Mount Everest' or 'her teeth are like knives.'

This week in PE we focussed on passing and our footballing skills are looking much improved! We also enjoyed making our healthy fruit salad on Tuesday. We have also began to prepare for harvest and have started to practice for this! On Friday we produced some artwork using watercolours to go with our dragon writing, which will be going up on display this week.
