Week beginning 19.9.16

Date: 24th Sep 2016 @ 5:30pm

We had another great week in year 2! Homework started properly this week, so we would just like to say a big thank you for your support at home with this. Many thanks with your support with spellings also this week. The rule that we looked at it phonics was particularly tricky this week, as we were looking at the year 2 spelling rules that 'ci', 'ce' and 'cy' make the 's' sound. We can tell how hard the children worked and they should be proud of the scores they achieved. The rule next week should hopefully be a little easier! Well done to Bella, who was our Star Speller of the Week, for her inquisitive nature, spotting the 's' sound in many words this week such as 'sentence,' which was in one of our learning objectives.

In maths we have been looking for one last week at place value, particularly at problem solving, sequencing and rounding. We found rounding a little tricky, but we had two lessons to cover it and most children felt more confident by the second lesson. Have a look at rounding to the nearest 10 at home if you would like to do any extra work at home this week.

In literacy we have been looking at word classes this week. Try quizing your child as to what a noun, verb or adjective is. Additionally we started to look at adverbs. We have been using all of this language to help us with our story writing. We started to write the opening of our stories on Friday and the quality of work was of a great standard, with some super adjectives being used.

In RE, we have continued to look at our theme of good news, while in science we have been looking at healthy eating. Next week we will be making a fruit salad! In topic we looked at significant British Monarchs and had a go at making our own timeline of British kings and queens. On Friday we had a session on the laptops and started to make our own E-safety posters about staying safe online.

Keep up the reading at home and please ask if you have any questions.
