Week beginning 15th May

Date: 21st May 2017 @ 9:12pm

What a super week we have had in Year 1! As it has been Year 2 SATs and we have all been in one class for reading. This has given us the opportunity to explore a whole text that is a little trickier than some of the books we read daily. We chose the story of ‘Paddington and the Grand Tour’; it has been fantastic discovering the adventures Paddington went on as well as reading with different friends who we may not ordinarily read with.

This has lead into our Literacy work for the week, as we began to study non-chronological reports. For the invention part of our writing, we gathered the facts we know about Paddington Bear and learnt them through a T4W story map. This has given us a good understanding of the features of a non-chronological that we will need to include as well as what we need to focus on when researching for our innovation next week.

In Maths, our focus has been multiplication. We started the week by completed repeated addition sentences and then moved on to using arrays. By the end of the week, we were completing multiplication sentences using a variety of methods.

In RE this week we started learning about the Torah. We have used kitchen rolls to create the idea of the scroll; the children painted the rolls, left to dry and then stuck the paper on the inside to create the effect of a scroll. The children were very interested in the language and books used in the Torah, so we have moved our learning forward and started to explore this.

In Science, we explored animals further by looking at our own pets. We have learned how we can look after pets; the essentials they need to survive and what we can do to have fun with them and look after them well.

I hope you have all have a lovely week and see you bright and early on Monday morning.
