Week beginning 12th May

Date: 18th Jun 2017 @ 10:36am

What a busy week we have had in Year 1! The week started with everyone completing their phonics screening test with Miss Goff and we were both blown away by the fantastic effort put in by all the children. They have all worked so hard and should all be very proud of themselves!

Following on from that, we all went on our wonderful trip to Trentham Gardens. As you can see from the blog post earlier in the week, the children had a fantastic time. They were all superbly behaved and a credit to the school.

In literacy this week, we have finished off writing our stories about going on the lion hunt. As the children were so familiar with the story it allowed them to use lots of creative language.  In these last few weeks I have been blown away by the standard of writing in Year One. They are really showing traits of Year Two children now!

In maths this week, we have been doing lots of revision in preparation for maths assessments. Therefore, we have been covering lots of different aspects and all the children have risen to the challenge.

During our topic lesson on Thursday afternoon, we used the skills we had learnt during den building on our trip and created our own caves back in the classroom. We went into the woods to explore for materials and then created a camouflaged den that bears may want to live in. The children were extremely imaginative and enjoyed sharing their knowledge with others in the class.

I hope you are all having a lovely weekend.
