Week beginning 10th July

Date: 14th Jul 2017 @ 2:03pm

What a wonderful last few weeks we are having as Year 1! In literacy this week we have been focusing on writing shorter pieces but punctuating them correctly.  We have written a description for a setting as well as outlining the features of a particular character. We have re-read our work to check full stops and capital letters and to ensure they are in the correct place. This has really helped us to grasp a good understanding of where they need to go in a sentence; even those who were confident with punctuation before have benefitted and corrected their work independently.

In maths this week we have mastered using a number line and adding a variety of numbers. We started the week by adding a 1-digit number to a 2-digit number and some of us have ended the week by adding two 2-digit numbers. I have been particularly impressed with how the children have risen to the challenge and not let it defeat them.

In RE this week we have finished our Judaism unit by looking at why Joseph stayed loyal to his faith. It is a lovely to round off a unit, recap and discuss what the children have learnt.

In PE this week we have been exploring tennis drills and sprints on the track. The children used the drills they learn during their warm up as a way of keeping their bodies warm whilst they were waiting for their turn to run. As a class we explored how these quick, fast exercises raise our heart rate quickly.

I hope you all have a lovely weekend before we start our last full week as Year 1.
