Week beginning 10.10.16

Date: 16th Oct 2016 @ 3:21pm

We have had another exciting week in year 2. This week in phonics we have been looking at the 'le' sound, which comes at the end of words. We looked at short and long vowel sounds and the fact that after a short vowel, there are 2 consonants before the le, such as in apple. But in long vowel sounds, the vowel is stretched and only one consonant follows it before the le e.g. in table. This has been a tricky rule to learn but the children  have done very well to understand this. Thank you once more for your help at home with spellings, as well as with the homework.
Congratulations to George, who was our Super Speller, for his excellent observation of all of our year 2 spelling rules.

In literacy this week the children have been innovating the story of Kassim and the dragon and using their imagination to change elements of the story. They have done a great job!

In maths we have been measuring length and weight and comparing measurements using < and > symbols.

In topic we have been looking at St George and comparing the legend of St George and the dragon to the real life St George. We have also continued with our healthy eating in Science and the theme of good news in RE. In Computing we have made an e-safety poster using the laptops.

We would also like to make you aware that two students, Miss Peak and Mr Higginson, will be joining us until January. This is a fantastic opportunity for the class, as it means that there will be a lot of adult support in the class, resulting in many of the children being able to work with an adult regularly in class.

If you have any questions or queries, please ask.
