WC 5th March 2018

Date: 7th Mar 2018 @ 2:27pm

This half may be a short one but we have lots of fit in.

Last week we started our maths unit on statistics, which involved us drawing and interpreting pictograms, bar charts and tables. This week we have started on measure looking at the relationship between mm, cm and m. You can help at home by thinking about which units you would use to measure different objects of different sizes. Children also need to be able to convert between the different units confidently. At this point, we don't write the measurements as decimals so we would say 1m 35cm = 135cm.

In English we are focusing on the story of Little Red Riding Hood as a warning tale. We used World Book Day to hook the children as Mr Stanway and I dressed at Little Red and the wolf. The children wrote some fantastic spine poems about the wolf, using wonderful figurative language and experimenting with higher level vocabulary. This week we have been exploring how authors help us as a reader to learn about a character.

In Science we have been learning about what a light source is. We have been investigating where the lightest place in school is and using data logger to measure this. We will then apply what we have learnt in maths on statistics to create a bar chart.

For maths homework this week there are two activities. Please don't worry if you don't have time to complete both. One is extra times tables practice which can be done at another time.

Next week is our trip to the Dewa Experience in Chester. We will be outside for part of the day so please make sure that children have coats.
