WC 1st February 2016

Date: 1st Feb 2016 @ 10:01pm

This week Year 4 are beginning their roles as playtime equipment supervisors, which I am sure they have told you all about. I am sure they will prove themselves to be very responsible and do an excellent job!

In Maths this week we are learning about perimeter. Here are some examples of the types of questions we are looking at:

And one to really get the children thinking...

In English we continue to read Oliver and the Seawigs. We'll be starting to learn more about the character of Oliver, writing some diary entries and beginning to look at explanation writing.

I'm really impressed with some of the 500 Words entries that are starting to come in. Remember that you need to submit your entry online, however we'd also love to keep a copy of your stories in school. As this is a homework task, please bring your stories in by Friday next week. Here are a few tips to help to make your writing more exciting:

- 2A sentences (2 adjectives before the noun)

- interesting verbs

- adverb and adverb openers (e.g. 'Slowly and silently...'

- BOYS sentences (adding extra information to a sentence using 'but', 'or', 'yet' or 'so'.

- Outside, inside sentences

- Noun, who, which, where sentences (e.g. Oliver, who was a famous explorer, was excited to be arriving at Deepwater Bay.

- -ing sentence openers

- and most importantly check your spellings!

Finally, well done to the swimmers in my group today who worked very hard swimming in their clothes. Next week will be the children's last swimming lesson this year, however they will swim again in Year 5 and Year 6.
