Reception's Blog Week Beginning Monday 4th October

Date: 7th Oct 2021 @ 12:34pm

What a busy week we have had! It goes without saying that we have had a lot of fun this week between our dress up day, forest school and our visit to Church.

Our dress up day was such a success and we would like to thank all parents for going to such trouble to make sure all of the children had outfits and books to share. On our dress up day, we made our own masks by sponge painting, using scissors and attaching lollypop sticks. We help the bears find their habitat by practising our fine motor skills and bouncing them back their home. We counted different amounts of bears and then went on to recreate the story of ‘We’re Going on a Bear Hunt’. We hope you enjoy looking through the photos.

In Literacy this week, we have been making our own stories by adding our own characters into the story of ‘We’re Going on a Bear Hunt’. We have had giraffes, unicorns, mermaids, tigers and cats. Next week we will go on to retelling the story using these characters.

In Maths, we have been looking at the number 5 and comparing numbers by finding more and less. We did this using lots of conkers that Hettie brought in from her garden at home and the children grasped the concept well. It may be good to continue to use this vocabulary at home with your child when they are out on a walk or even eating dinner – “who has more and who has fewer?”

During our afternoon sessions this week we have been in the forest, painting bears, learning about the Good News that is given to us in the bible as well as collecting and exploring apples from our garden.

Phonics sounds this week have been o, n and t. Please see below if you would like to have a go with your child at home.

Just a favour to ask all parents, please could you read through the menu choices with your child before coming to school to discuss whether they like the choice or if they need a packed lunch. We are finding more children are eating less which is having an impact on their concentration and level of tiredness during the afternoon. I will attach a copy of the link to the menu below. It is week 1 next week.
