Reception's Blog WB Monday 7th December

Date: 11th Dec 2020 @ 1:41pm

In Literacy this week we have been working really hard on Christmas themed writing. We have been ensuring our letter are formed correctly and writing CVC words. The children loved discovering Christmas picture (hot chocolate, red reindeer’s noses, chocolate log etc) and writing the appropriate words to fill in the missing gap. It has been wonderful to see their confidence flourish and how they are beginning to write independently. I have been completely blown away by some of the children who have even moved on to writing sentences independently.

We have had a shape focus in maths this week. The children have named basic 2D shapes and then used them to create Christmas trees and Christmas crackers. It was good to see how the children use the shapes in an image and how they were able to talk about how they recognise them from different activities and places.

The children had a wonderful day with Mrs McLean yesterday. The day was all based around Incarnation, so the children retold the story of The First Christmas, made Christingles and roleplayed some the story. It was wonderful to hear all about the activities they got up to and they thoroughly enjoyed her teaching them.

Christmas activities are also well underway, with Mr Simmons on Tuesday we made felt Christmas trees and yesterday afternoon they made clay reindeers. We will be sending all of this home next week for you to add to your Christmas decoration display.

We have a couple of reminders for next week. On Tuesday 15th December, it is Christmas lunch day and the children are invited to wear their Christmas jumper. On Wednesday 16th December, we have our Christmas disco for the children, so they are welcome to come into the school with a change of clothes that we will put them into after lunch. In addition to this on Wednesday 16th December, we have our Nativity going live at 4pm. On Thursday 18th December we have our nativity Friday 18th December is the last day of term.

Wishing you a lovely weekend,

Miss Wellings
