Reception's Blog - Week Beginning Monday 26th March

Date: 26th Mar 2021 @ 4:42pm

This last week has been wonderful in Reception. Due to the change in weather and our topic of Spring, we changed a few of our activities. A real highlight of the week for me was the observational drawings of flowers. It was lovely to see the children exploring and experimenting with drawing.

The sounds this week in phonics have been a little trickier so we will continue our work on ‘ir’ and ‘oy’ next week before moving on to the sound ‘air’. As the children are starting to recognise the different sounds we are encouraging them to use a sound mat independently to try and write any words they find tricky. Although this can be tricky at first, the children have loved the independence with writing.

In literacy next week we will be labelling pictures from our Spring walk, writing Easter poems and cards and completing our end of term writing assessment (writing sentences independently).

In maths next week we will be exploring shape and space. During our time learning at home we spent a considerable amount of time on this so it will be recapping and then moving on to use vocabulary such as roll, stack, sides and corners.

Our topic afternoons next week will be based our RE and exploring the story of Easter. Each day we will be doing a different activity and I have sent a message on class dojo asking for each child to bring in a spare colourful sock with them next week.

Before signing off for this week, I do have to mention how incredibly proud I am of the children’s manners. This is something that we encourage the children to do from the moment they come in to school and it is wonderful to see just how polite they are being to their friends, teachers and all members of staff around school.

I hope you all have a wonderful weekend and I look forward to seeing you on Monday morning.
