Reception's Blog - Week Beginning Monday 23rd September

Date: 27th Sep 2019 @ 1:42pm

What another lovely week it has been in Reception! Everyone around school is commenting on how grown up the class are becoming and the lovely manners they are using. We are very proud of them and the sense of responsibility they are showing.

In Literacy, we have been exploring our favourite characters in The Storm Whale as well as learning the story with our talk for writing actions. In Maths, we have been learning all about the number 3. This has entailed writing the number three, harvesting three carrots and finding creatures that have three spots. In addition to this we have started to look at sorting objects.

In phonics we have been focusing on the sounds a, i, d & t as well as the tricky words: come, on and little. The children are doing so well with remembering the sound of the letter, the name of the letter and the rhyme to write them. They are becoming much more familiar with the morning routine of phonics and are enjoying this focused learning time.

Harvest has taken the main focus in topic this week and we have spent time learning our story of ‘The Little Red Hen’. We have also been learning all about the scales on fish and using celery as our paint brush to recreate the effect.

Homework this week is to encourage your child to build the muscles in their hands as much as possible by using playdoh, squeezing sponges, pegging out the washing or using a pencil. We are discovering that all children are finding holding and writing with a pencil very challenging so in order to allow the children to succeed it is essential that this is exercised on a daily basis. In addition, we have sent home the letters a, i & d for the children to practise daily.

Looking forward to next week, we have individual school photos on Monday 30th September so please ensure the children have their cardigans, jumpers and ties ready. Miss Wellings will be out of class on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday next week, but Miss Sherliker and Mrs Millington will still be in class with a support of a supply teacher.

Finally, we would like to say a huge thank you  everyone who came to celebrate Harvest with us and took part in our ‘Stay and Make’ morning – it appeared that everyone enjoyed the experience and it is wonderful to see our community coming together.

Wishing everyone a lovely weekend.
