Reception's Blog - Week Beginning Monday 21st January

Date: 24th Jan 2019 @ 4:30pm

W.b. Monday 21st January 2019

Firstly, thank you to all those who came to support Reception’s first ‘Stay and Make’. We were so pleased to see so many of you getting stuck in with building your treasure chests! They all look absolutely fantastic and are being displayed proudly in our classroom ready to be filled with magical treasure.

Continuing on from our story, ‘Star in a Jar’, we’ve challenged the children to change some aspects of the narrative. Instead of a little boy who finds a star, we’ve had a golden unicorn who finds a rainbow, a big cousin who finds a snowflake as well as a Daddy who finds a rocket! We initially retold the story verbally so we could film the children and later in the week we put the stories into our literacy books. Our focus, as always, is capital letters, finger spaces, full spots and those all-important initial and final sounds. It’s wonderful to see the children’s written progress.

A very important part of our week was on Tuesday morning when Karen, a lady from the NSPCC, came to present an assembly. She talked to us about what it meant to be ‘safe’ and what to do if we ever felt we needed someone’s help. We discussed our trusted adults both inside and outside of school and learnt how to remember their telephone number. We continued this topic in our classrooms and completed various activities and tasks to further our understanding. We were so pleased to see how engaged the children were and how eager they were to answer questions and participate. Karen did commend the children on their beautiful sitting and listening!

Finally, a little reminder about reading throughout the week. We do hope that the children are reading as often as possible but we’d love for them to be reading their school books at least 4 times a week. Each book is intended to be read twice before being changed on a Tuesday and Friday. Please initial/comment when you’ve read so we’re able to award the children their reading Dojos.

Have a wonderful weekend,

The Reception team.
