Reception W/B 7th November

Date: 11th Nov 2016 @ 7:45pm

Welcome Back!

Welcome back to school and we hope you had a wonderful half term.  This half term is one of our favourites as we embrace the magic of Christmas.

It has been a very busy week! On Monday we created some lovely bonfire night pictures. It was lovely to hear about the children's experiences.

On Tuesday we walked up to a local farm to hear the story of 'Farmer Duck,' our new Talk 4 Writing task.  A big thank you to Mrs Davenport for welcoming us. I know a lot of the pupils were particularly excited to be visiting Erika's home too!

In Maths we have been looking at 1 more and 1 less. This is a really important skill and anything you could do at home to reinforce this would be most helpful. For example, when putting out a plate of biscuits ask your child to count them, then ask "what if I ate one?" Singing number rhymes, such as "Five Little Ducks" and "Ten Green Bottles" are also excellent opportunities to practise these key skills.

Reception did a wonderful job at our Remembrance Service today.  Mr Collier commented what tuneful singers we have...I think he may already be thinking ahead to KS2 summer productions! The children have really enjoyed learning about Remembrance this week and they have created some lovely medals, as well as a class wreath displaying the names of those men from Brereton who died in WWI. Our next church service will be on Wednesday 21st December at 2pm. We promise you will leave feeling particularly festive!

Finally, we have started to learn our Nativity songs this week and staff have been very impressed! We will be working hard to learn our songs and our lines over the next few weeks. You should have received a letter regarding costumes; please if there are any issues do come and speak to us.  Our Nativity will be on Friday 2nd December and all are welcome.

Next week we have a few dates for the diary. On Thursday 17th the PTA are holding a non-uniform day. Pupils are invited to wear normal clothes and in return are asked to bring in a bottle or a prize for the tombola. Reception have also been tasked with staffing the nail art and tattoo stands at the Christmas Fair on Friday 25th November. If you would be able to help for 20 minutes during the evening please come and speak to us or to Mrs Proudlove.  Friday 18th November is Children in Need. The School Council have organised a 'Great Brereton Bake Off.'. Pupils are invited to don their aprons and bring their bake in on Friday morning.  Entries will then be judged before being sold to pupils at break time.  All funds raised will be donated to Children in Need.

Thank you for your continued support.
