Week 5…

This week we have continued looking at the story of ‘The Bear Who Went Boo.’  We wrote letters from the polar bear cub to the reporter, apologising and begging him to come back.  We also wrote lists, showing what animals he would be able to film if he returned.

In Maths we have been learning about subtraction.  We have been singing number rhymes such as 10 green bottles and we have been using Duplo and Numicon to help us solve subtraction sums.  If you wish to practise further at home why not try the games below:

Our Science this week started with a challenge.  We were tasked to remove ice cubes from a bowl of water using just a piece of string.  Try as we might we couldn’t quite do it.  We then tried placing the string on top of the ice cube before sprinkling salt on.  If we were patient, we found that when we lifted up the string the ice was attached.  The children then queried whether it was just salt that did this or whether other substances would have the same affect.

Also this week we have been celebrating Chinese New Year and 2016 will be the Year of the Monkey.  We learned about how the years came to be named after animals and we looked at how Chinese people, who live in the UK, celebrate.  Throughout the afternoon we made Chinese dragon puppets, Chinese lanterns and we even got to try some yummy Chinese food!

We have lots of fun things planned for next week as we finish our Polar Regions topic and move on to Space after half term.  See you all on Monday!

Kind regard,

Miss Goff
