Week 2

What a super week we have had in Reception.  This week the children helped me to write our class blog.  Here it what they wanted to share with you.

“We have been learning about tortoises.  We found how the tortoise got his beautiful pattern on his shell.”

We have continued to look at the story ‘How the Tortoise Got his Shell.’  The children are getting really good at telling it using our story map.  I have attached a photo of the map below.

“Mrs Moore came to see us with her two tortoises.  Amazingly, the big tortoise was the youngest and the smallest tortoise was the oldest.”

“Interestingly, they don’t have teeth but they have very sharp gums.”

The children loved seeing the tortoises and learning more about them.  Thank you Mrs Moore!  We then wrote super sentences, starting with adverbs such as ‘Interestingly,’ ‘Amazingly’ and ‘Surprisingly.’  As you can see from the quotes above the pupils were able to use them very well!

“Our caterpillars have grown and are nearly ready to go into their chrysalises.”

We can’t wait to see if they have on Monday!

In Maths this week we have been learning how to use a number line to calculate change.  We have also been 'finding the difference' between two numbers using Duplo blocks and multilink.

This week we have also been celebrating St George’s Day by making lovely shields, as well as creating wonderful birthday cards for Her Majesty the Queen.

For homework Miss Bailey has found a wonderful activity involving flowers, as we have been planting seeds and learning about the different parts of a plant.  Please try to upload the photos on your child’s tapestry account.

Finally, in RE we have been continuing to investigate our theme of Friendship.

“We have been learning about being kind to each other and helping our friends.  We learnt about Jesus’ friends.”

Next week promises to be just as busy!  Miss Bailey has planned some very exciting maths work involving fruit and ice cream!  If your child has any allergies or intolerances please let us know on Monday.

Have a lovely weekend!
