Reception WB 16th October

Date: 20th Oct 2017 @ 9:17pm

A Fantastic Week!

This week we have had two special theme days. Our 'Once Upon a Time' Day on Thursday was a huge success. The children all looked spectacular so a big thank you to all of parents for providing costumes. On Friday we learnt all about the Hindu festival of Diwali. The children learnt a Bollywood dance, made traditional sweets and sculpted diva lamps out of the clay. We even got to try some delicious Indian food! We learnt that Diwali is the Hindu festival of light and we noticed lots of similarities with Christian celebrations, such as Christmas.  We discussed how the lamps helped Rama and Sita find their way home, just as Jesus guides us through the darkness. ThanPlease see our gallery items for photos and videos of both days.

In Maths this week we have been focusing on weight. We started by comparing items and sorting them into heavy and light. By using balance scales we were able to check and compare. We then used the balance scales to weigh items. For homework we would like you to add an observation to your child's Tapestry account, relating to weight. I have listed some ideas in the children's reading diaries.

In Literacy we have been writing lists of objects that we will need in order to rescue a King. We also wrote about the fairy tale character we had some dressed up as. We are starting to introduce the concept of spaces between words so try and highlight these when you are reading at home.

We look forward to seeing you all at parent consultations next week. Have a lovely weekend!
